Introducing the Butterfly Project

The Butterfly Project is a program produced by The Dr. Jon Mendelsohn Foundation to generate support and raise awareness for children's arts programs, through the creation of hundreds of ceramic butterflies available for sponsorship.

This project will take flight on October 11th, 6:00 pm. Please RSVP to cohmer@cintimag.emmis.com.

Beginning in October 2006, donors to The Dr. Jon Mendelsohn Foundation will have the opportunity to sponsor large garden butterfly ornaments for $1,000 a piece. Each of these butterflies will be a unique work of art by a local artist, and will come with a weighted base and plaque.

Part of the proceeds generated from each of these sponsorships will in turn support the generation of twenty smaller butterflies produced by volunteers, community members, and area organizations. These bisque-fired butterflies are then glazed by area youth participating in Happen, Inc. ceramics sessions. The forty-five minute Happen art sessions will emphasize life skills through lessons in art. The hands-on project will include each child glazing two butterflies – one for themselves to take home, and a second to be offered to benefit The Dr. Jon Mendelsohn Foundation.

The large butterflies will be available for sponsorship beginning in October 2006, culminating on April 5th, 2007 (tentative date) with an exhibition of all butterflies created by area artists and youth, when the ceramic pieces will become available to donors. Limited butterflies will also be available before the exhibition at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center.
